Senators to Lodge Complaint Against Justice Minister and DSI Chief for Section 157 Violation

Bangkok: The Senate confirmed that it will submit a request to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to punish Thawee and the DSI Director-General for violating Section 157. Pol. Lt. Col. Chatchawat Saengphet, Senior Inspector, stated that on March 11 at 3:00 p.m., approximately 30 senators will head to the NACC to file a complaint against Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, and Pol. Lt. Col. Yuthana Phraedam, Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). They are accused of dereliction of duty under Section 157 of the Criminal Code.

According to Thai News Agency, this complaint follows a previous petition submitted by the group of senators to the Senate President. The petition urged the filing of a complaint with the NACC against Pol. Col. Thawee and the DSI. The submission on March 11 is a response to the DSI’s Special Case Committee’s decision to accept an investigation into the 2024 senators’ election as a special case involving money laundering charges.

Despite the DSI’s authority to investigate without a two-thirds majority vote, the reasoning behind classifying it as a special case-due to alleged damages exceeding 300 million baht-was criticized by Pol. Lt. Gen. Chatwarat as an intentional act of harassment. The case is perceived as targeting specific individuals by designating it as a special case. Consequently, the matter will be escalated to the NACC. There will also be further consideration on whether to charge the Special Case Committee members who supported the vote.
