Bangkok: TCL Thailand has made a significant stride in the renewable energy market with the introduction of its household solar cell system, complete with battery storage, as part of its 'Technology for the Whole Home' strategy. This announcement was made at the company's 2026 annual innovation exhibition, marking its inaugural venture into the rooftop renewable energy market in Thailand. The official market launch is slated for June.
According to Thai News Agency, the expansion comes at a time when Thailand's energy landscape is undergoing transformation. Jerry Wang, head of TCL Solar Technology in Thailand, identified four primary factors driving the accelerated adoption of clean energy within Thai households. These include government policies such as the PDP 2024 plan, which aims to increase renewable energy's share from 20% to 51% by 2037, and the rising cost of electricity, which has prompted consumers to seek long-term cost-saving measures.
Additionally, tax incentives for solar system installations and community solar power projects, which allow users to sell excess electricity back to the grid, are motivating factors. Climatic conditions, especially in southern Thailand, which receives over 2,200 hours of sunlight yearly, further support this shift. "These factors have led to a shift in consumer behavior, from hesitant about whether to install or not to, to more people comparing and choosing the brand that best suits their home," said Wang.
To address long-term trust issues, TCL is leveraging its 21 years of service network experience in Thailand. With the second-largest market share in the TV segment and a leading position in the air conditioner segment, TCL already has a substantial network of service centers and technicians nationwide, which supports its strategy for building trust in the new venture.
The design of the solar systems focuses on simplicity and practicality, tackling the technical and physical challenges of modern housing. Key features include an all-in-one design that integrates inverter, battery, and UPS systems; scalability to accommodate future energy consumption increases; weather resistance to withstand Thailand's diverse climatic conditions; and a smart power switching system that ensures continuous power supply during outages.
TCL's entry into the renewable energy sector in Thailand signifies a shift in the residential solar market, moving from price-based competition to a focus on brand standards and after-sales service. This new venture is set to further solidify TCL's presence in the Thai market, offering a sustainable solution to rising electricity bills.
