Bangkok: The Thai Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Federation of Thai Chambers of Commerce and over 30 governmental and private organizations, is expanding the 'Hug The Earth' project. This initiative involves displaying environmentally friendly labels on products at sales points to facilitate consumer access to eco-friendly products and support Thailand's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Poj Aramwattananon, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Chambers of Commerce, emphasized the global challenges posed by climate change and environmental issues affecting the economy, trade, and people's quality of life. He stressed that future economic growth should align with the balance between society and the environment.
The 'Hug The Earth' project seeks to raise awareness and understanding of environmentally labeled products, simplifying consumer access to information and aiding purchasing decisions. This is accomplished through the 'Hug The Earth' symbol, clearly indicating at the point of sale that the product is environmentally friendly.
Currently, the project involves more than 30 organizations, including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Energy, along with modern retailers and store networks across the nation. The goal is to further expand cooperation to increase access to environmentally labeled products.
Dr. Poj noted that the project encourages Thai businesses to participate in achieving the net-zero emissions target by 2050, focusing on promoting the production, distribution, and consumption of goods mindful of their environmental impact.
Dr. Poj stated that collaboration among the government, private sector, and consumers is crucial for driving the country's green economy and motivating entrepreneurs to develop more environmentally friendly products and services.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce plans to broaden its cooperative network with the business sector and additional distribution channels to promote sustainable consumption and support Thailand's transition to a low-carbon economy.
