Department of Physical Education Marks 92nd Anniversary with Health and Sports Initiatives

Bangkok: The Department of Physical Education celebrated its 92nd anniversary with a focus on building networks to promote sports and recreation, aiming for a healthier population in Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Mongkol Wimolrat, Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, led a Buddhist merit-making ceremony and a ritual to honor sacred sites around the National Stadium. This event was attended by Mr. Surat Charanoyothin, Director of Tourism and Sports for Phatthalung Province, along with executives, civil servants, and individuals from the physical education and sports sectors. The celebrations included an offering to the Phra Phonbodi statue and a ceremony at the Supachalasai Shrine, followed by a merit-making ceremony with 10 monks, led by Phra Kru Sophonthamchoti, Assistant Abbot of Wat Duang Khae. Additionally, department personnel participated in community service activities by donating blood to support hospitals nationwide.

Mr. Mongkol Wimolrat emphasized the department's mission to promote and improve the health of Thai people, focusing on four key dimensions: promoting proactive sports science, developing sports coaches and referees, organizing sporting events to boost tourism and the economy, and establishing a Safe Sport approach. He stressed the importance of collaborating with external networks, including various ministries and partner agencies, to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure that all Thais can engage in sports and recreational activities safely. The department's network of physical education officers and sports volunteers plays a vital role in encouraging regular exercise in local communities, contributing to a stronger and healthier society.
