People’s Party Launches Program Featuring Justice Reformer Munin Pongsapan

Bangkok: The People's Party has unveiled its inaugural special program, "The Professionals," which introduces Munin Pongsapan as a key member of the team driving justice reform efforts. The program, which runs online from January 5-15, 2026, aims to present the People's Government administration team to the public. The first episode featured Professor Dr. Munin Pongsapan, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Thammasat University, with Suthichai Yoon hosting the discussion.

According to Thai News Agency, Professor Dr. Munin shared his motivations for entering the political arena, highlighting a shift from the traditional academic reluctance to engage in politics. He emphasized the importance of joining forces with the People's Party to push legislative agendas forward and expressed his belief that now is the opportune moment for experienced professionals from various sectors to enter politics. He argued that solving national issues requires more than just politicians; it demands active participation from experts and citizens alike.

Professor Dr. Munin critiqued Thailand's current justice system, pointing out its complex structure and the inefficiencies caused by multiple constitutional layers. He highlighted the ineffectiveness of independent organizations and the challenges faced by the Ministry of Justice due to these constraints. He argued for the need to simplify legal processes to alleviate burdens on citizens and business operations. Furthermore, he stressed strengthening public access to justice and employing technology to streamline court proceedings.

The justice system annually handles around 2 million cases with only about 5,000 judges available in the main court systems. Professor Dr. Munin proposed increasing the involvement of reputable lawyers in public legal services and enhancing mediation access to reduce court cases. He also advocated for expanding the use of technology to improve document management in court processes.

Addressing public mistrust in the justice system, Professor Dr. Munin outlined a strategy to rebuild confidence, aligning with the party's slogan: "Thailand is not gray, Thailand is equal, Thailand is up-to-date with the world." He identified corruption and lack of transparency as core issues eroding public trust and called for comprehensive reforms starting from the investigative stage to improve independence and efficiency across the justice system.

Professor Dr. Munin explained his commitment to the role of "Prospective Minister of Justice" as more than an administrative duty, but a mission to restore fairness in the country's legal framework. He expressed urgency in taking action to prevent further societal decline and underscored the importance of his involvement while he still has the energy to effect change.

Concluding the program, Professor Dr. Munin remarked on the disparity between theoretical legal principles and real-world practices, emphasizing the need for alignment between the two. The launch of this program signifies the People's Party's strategic move to integrate professional expertise into politics, aimed at addressing deep-rooted structural issues effectively.
