Bangkok: The Treasury Department has announced an initiative to offer free admission to five of its museums throughout January 2026, as part of a New Year celebration. This initiative, dubbed "Happy New Year Trip with Treasury Museums as a New Year Gift for the Public 2026," aims to provide the public with an enriching cultural experience without the burden of entrance fees.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Akkharut Sonthayanon, Director-General of the Treasury Department, stated that the initiative will run from January 5th to 31st, 2026. The five participating museums include the Coin and Currency Museum, Bang Lamphu Museum, Talat Noi Museum, Chiang Mai Treasury Museum, and Khon Kaen Treasury Museum. These museums will be open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, with varying hours depending on the day.
The Coin and Currency Museum, located on Chakraphong Road in Bangkok, and the Bang Lamphu Museum on Phra Sumen Road will welcome visitors during the specified period. Similarly, the Talat Noi Museum on Phanurangsi Pier, Chiang Mai Treasury Museum on Rajdamnern Road, and Khon Kaen Treasury Museum on Sri Chan Road will also participate in this initiative. Each museum offers unique insights into the region's history and culture.
Mr. Sonthayanon also mentioned that the initiative aims to create a joyful environment for the public during the New Year festival. Additionally, visitors can purchase commemorative coins and other souvenir items at these museums as keepsakes for the festive season. This initiative not only provides educational opportunities but also supports local tourism and cultural engagement.
