Taiwan Foreign Minister Identifies China as Source of Intimidation

Taipei: Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung declared on Friday that Taiwan is under continuous pressure from China, asserting that Taiwan is a democratic territory and not part of China. He emphasized Taiwan's commitment to avoiding conflict and striving for lasting peace.

According to Thai News Agency, during a press conference marking the second anniversary of his term, Lin stated that China is attempting to alter the status quo. He defended Taiwan's efforts to bolster its self-defense, including arms purchases from the United States, describing these actions as mutually beneficial with the US. Lin criticized the Beijing government under President Xi Jinping as the source of intimidation and coercion. He called for disputes to be resolved peacefully and based on justice, condemning China's frequent intimidation tactics and highlighting the importance of accepting differing opinions. Lin stressed that conflicts should be managed peacefully, rather than through force.
