Ceremony Honors Contributors to Buddhism with Fans and Pins

Bangkok: The Department of Religious Affairs held a ceremony to present ceremonial fans and honorary pins to those who have contributed to Buddhism.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Religious Affairs (DRA) organized the event at the Centennial Hall of King Chulalongkorn Memorial, Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, in the Dusit District of Bangkok. His Holiness Somdej Phra Maha Thira-chan, serving as the monastic representative, and Mr. Chaiyaphon Suk-iam, Director-General of the DRA, presided over the ceremony.

Mr. Chaiyapol Suk-iam highlighted that the DRA has been honoring individuals and organizations contributing to Buddhism since 1982. The initiative aims to recognize those dedicated to preserving and promoting Buddhism. In 2025, 160 individuals were chosen to receive the "Dharma Chakra Pillar" award from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, scheduled for June 2, 2026, at Wat Pathum Wanaram in Bangkok.

The Ministry of Culture, through the DRA, also organized the 2025 Network Workshop for Benefactors of Buddhism, fostering collaboration for promoting morality and ethics. The event honored 94 monks, including Phra Phromphatcharayanamuni and Phra Phromsakyawong Wisut, with ceremonial fans, while 52 laypersons and 14 organizations received honorary pins.

The Director-General further emphasized the significant contributions of honorees in supporting and driving Buddhist activities. These individuals and organizations exemplify public service and coordination within religious networks, promoting Buddhist principles across society. The ceremony aims to inspire future generations to continue preserving and disseminating Buddhism.
