Bangkok: Banks in the Bangkok area will be closed on the special holiday of October 16, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bank of Thailand announced an additional public holiday for financial institutions and specialized financial institutions in Bangkok on Friday, October 16, 2026. This measure is intended to facilitate travel and ensure security for finance ministers and central bank governors of member countries attending the annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Governors.
As per the Cabinet resolution on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a special public holiday will be declared in Bangkok on Friday, October 16, 2026. Government agencies in Bangkok are also set to implement a work-from-home policy for three days: Monday, October 12, 2026; Wednesday, October 14, 2026; and Thursday, October 15, 2026. This is to facilitate travel and ensure the safety of the ministers of finance and governors of central banks of member countries attending the 2026 Annual Meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Governors.
The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has deemed it appropriate to add an extra public holiday for financial institutions and specialized financial institutions in Bangkok on Friday, October 16, 2026. Financial institutions and specialized financial institutions may consider taking this action as appropriate, provided they have essential tasks or if canceling those tasks would cause damage or affect public services.
The Bank of Thailand has requested cooperation from financial institutions and specialized financial institutions to consider implementing work-from-home arrangements for units in Bangkok that do not provide public services on Monday, October 12, 2026; Wednesday, October 14, 2026; and Thursday, October 15, 2026. This is to help facilitate the smooth and efficient organization of the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
