Bodies of Deceased Thai Citizens to Be Repatriated from the Middle East Amid Rising Tensions

Bangkok: The Disaster Relief Center anticipates the repatriation of deceased Thai citizens' bodies back to Thailand on March 27th.

According to Thai News Agency, the Center for Emergency Situation Administration (CESA) has underscored the escalating tension in the Middle East, urging Thai citizens to promptly vacate affected regions.

Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared updates from the Center for Monitoring and Managing the Situation in the Middle East (CMS). The situation has intensified due to retaliatory actions among main conflicting parties, including Hezbollah, targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. Most attacks have been successfully repelled. Iran's assault near Israeli nuclear sites in Demonah and Alad resulted in several injuries, yet no Thai citizens have been reported harmed. In response, the Director-General of the World Health Organization urged de-escalation and civilian protection.

The Strait of Hormuz remains volatile, following the U.S. President's recent call to reopen it within 48 hours and Iran's warning of potential attacks on energy infrastructure. Consequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Thai citizens to leave risky areas, stay informed through official channels, and register their contact information with relevant Thai embassies and consulates.

In Israel, Thai officials plan to visit families of Thai workers who perished in recent explosions, aiding in compensation and benefits. Coordination with El Al Airlines is underway to repatriate the deceased's remains by March 27th. In Iran and Turkey, Thai embassies are facilitating the evacuation of four Thai workers from Bandar Abbas, expected to travel by land to Turkey before flying to Thailand.

Thai citizens in the Middle East are advised to remain vigilant, monitor official updates, and follow instructions. Since the onset of hostilities, 1,479 Thai citizens have been evacuated to safer locations. The Thai government remains committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens in the region.
