Buddha’s Footprint Emerges Amid Environmental Concerns in Mekong River

Mukdahan: Once a year, a footprint of the Buddha emerges in the middle of the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom Province. This extraordinary event attracts numerous visitors and spiritual seekers who gather to witness the sacred phenomenon.

According to Thai News Agency, there are growing concerns regarding the environmental health of the Mekong River. It has been reported that arsenic levels in the river exceed the legal limit by nine times. This alarming statistic has raised significant worries about the potential impact on aquatic life and food sources, which are crucial for the communities relying on the river.

In contrast to the serene and spiritual sight of the Buddha's footprint, visitors are also offered a unique experience in the region. They can take a ride on an amphibious vehicle to witness flocks of red-tailed kites in the middle of Trang Sea, providing a striking juxtaposition to the environmental challenges faced in the area.
