Crispy Pork Rice Shop in Khon Kaen Adjusts Menu Prices Amid Rising Pork Costs

Khon Kaen: Pork prices have surged for the first time in two years, compelling restaurants to adjust their prices and inform customers through visible signage. The Department of Internal Trade is urging department stores to collaborate in stabilizing pork prices.

According to Thai News Agency, Jing Jeng restaurant, a made-to-order eatery in downtown Khon Kaen known for its crispy pork dishes, has taken steps to clearly communicate the new pricing to its patrons. A notice at the restaurant states, "Due to the continuous increase in costs, Jing Jeng restaurant would like to adjust the price of the crispy pork dishes to start at 40 baht," an increase from the original price of 30 baht per dish.

Mrs. Panida Meesuk, a 57-year-old cook and shop manager at Jing Jeng, explained that the rising cost of butchered pork, particularly pork belly now priced at 220 baht per kilogram, has necessitated a price increase. Previously, selling a dish for 30 baht yielded almost no profit. She noted that most customers understand the situation, recognizing the genuine rise in pork prices. To adapt, the restaurant is reducing the amount of pork ordered while slightly increasing menu prices to maintain business viability.
