Iranian Drone Strike Targets Kuwait Airport, Causes Casualties

Kuwait city: An Iranian drone attacked the passenger terminal at Kuwait Airport, resulting in damage, fatalities, and injuries.

According to Thai News Agency, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense reported that one person was killed and several others injured following missile and drone strikes launched by Iran on various buildings, including the main passenger terminal of Kuwait International Airport, in the early hours of this morning local time.

Kuwaiti authorities declared a state of emergency, suspending all commercial flights and diverting them to other airports for safety reasons. Kuwait Airways has begun to gradually resume some services after assessing the safety situation. The airstrikes also damaged several diplomatic buildings in Kuwait City.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning Iran's actions, describing them as a violation of sovereignty and international law. The statement emphasized Kuwait's right to retaliate to defend its territory and people.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed that U.S. and allied air defense systems intercepted most of the Iranian missile and drone attacks. They stated that two missiles fired at Kuwait malfunctioned, but some debris and drones caused damage to civilian infrastructure.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the attack was in retaliation for a U.S. military strike on an Iranian drone control station and the ongoing U.S. naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC also claimed to have struck the U.S. Fifth Fleet Command headquarters in Bahrain, but CENTCOM confirmed that Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted or malfunctioned, failing to reach their targets.
