Bangkok: Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports is set to support the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL 2026) as part of its initiative to promote sports tourism and generate significant economic revenue, exceeding 2 billion baht.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry is committed to elevating Thailand's status as a hub for international sporting events, enhancing the country's image on the global stage.
Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, emphasized that the VNL 2026, which commenced its first leg in Nanjing, China, is a prominent event that showcases Thailand's capability to host international sports competitions. The event is expected to attract athletes and tourists worldwide, highlighting the country's excellent venues, management systems, and hospitality.
The government views sports as a strategic tool to generate income and stimulate tourism. The VNL 2026 is anticipated to raise international awareness of Thailand and stimulate economic sectors such as hotels, restaurants, travel, and services, as stated by the Minister of Tourism and Sports.
Hosting the VNL 2026 in Thailand is expected to strengthen the nation's position as a "World-Class Sports Destination" and align with the government's "Tourism and Sports Hub" policy. The Tourism and Sports Economics Division estimates the event will create over 2 billion baht in economic activity, benefiting accommodation, restaurants, transportation, retail, and other tourism and sports services, while also boosting employment and income locally.
The competition also presents a crucial opportunity to promote Thailand through live broadcasts and digital media, enhancing its image as a premier sports and tourism destination and supporting the long-term growth of its sports tourism industry.
