Tokyo: The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) recently conducted a visit to the Tokyo Metro Academy, a renowned railway training center, to exchange knowledge and experiences in railway operations. This initiative is aimed at steering MRTA towards becoming a central hub for developing skilled railway personnel in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pattanapong Phongsupasamit, Deputy Governor (Administration) of the MRTA, accompanied by Mr. Sutat Sikharas, Assistant Governor, and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), visited Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd.'s training center in Tokyo, Japan. The visit involved observing the management and knowledge-sharing practices of Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd., the largest subway operator in the metropolitan area. The focus was on developing a workforce capable of effectively entering the rail transportation industry. Tokyo Metro Academy is equipped to offer online courses to trainees globally, showcasing its strength in railway knowledge and providing a platform for unrestricted global knowledge exchange.
Mr. Pattanapong highlighted that a similar training institute to the Tokyo Metro Academy has been operational in Thailand for over six years, under the MRTA's responsibility. Established on March 22, 2019, the institute continuously offers a varied curriculum tailored to meet the needs of learners. These include MRTA employees, professionals in rail transportation companies, instructors from rail-related academic courses, associate degree pursuers, and the general public interested in electric train systems. The curriculum encompasses electric train control, operation, maintenance, and incident management, alongside basic knowledge of mass transit systems like train station operations and communication systems. The instructors include MRTA experts and academic partners.
The MRTA's Railway Personnel Training Center is committed to equipping graduates with knowledge, skills, and expertise that align with international standards, ensuring their effective contribution to railway service organizations.
Furthermore, the MRTA is focused on enhancing the training center's management to realize its goal of becoming a hub for developing quality railway personnel. This effort leverages both knowledge and experience while integrating academic collaboration with domestic and international railway agencies. This strategic move is set to propel the MRTA towards being a leading entity in mass rapid transit system development, improving travel efficiency, enhancing quality of life, and elevating the standards of Thailand's railway system.
