Sirikanya Criticizes Thai Government’s Economic Policy Amidst Public Discontent

Bangkok: In a fiery discussion during the House of Representatives meeting, Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul, Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, criticized the government's economic policy, accusing Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra and the administration of failing to deliver on their promises. She mocked the government's efforts, claiming they fall short of their advertised capabilities and result in widespread economic mismanagement.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sirikanya expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for exposing the Pheu Thai government's lack of economic acumen, suggesting that past successes were merely the result of luck. She further criticized the current administration, led by Prime Minister Settha Thavisin, for being ineffective even after seven months in power. Ms. Sirikanya argued that the government's economic management is chaotic and has led to increased suffering among farmers, investors, and workers.

The MP highlighted the struggles faced by various sectors, noting that the promise of a 400 baht minimum wage remains unfulfilled. She accused the government of relying on outdated policies and failing to provide clear solutions to pressing issues such as income disparities and high living costs. Ms. Sirikanya emphasized that the administration's inability to coordinate between ministries has further exacerbated these problems.

Ms. Sirikanya accused the Prime Minister of making empty promises regarding electricity costs and failing to stimulate economic growth through digital wallet policies. She contended that these initiatives have not resulted in increased consumption or GDP growth, labeling them as ineffective populist strategies. The MP also criticized the lack of coordination in addressing agricultural and debt issues, pointing out that the administration's actions have resulted in confusion and inconsistency.

Further, Ms. Sirikanya argued that the government's continued reliance on old policies and unrealistic goals, such as the proposed digital wallet project, shows a lack of innovation and competence. She expressed concern over the Bank of Thailand's hesitation to lower interest rates due to the government's indecisiveness, suggesting that this uncertainty could lead to inflation risks.

In her concluding remarks, Ms. Sirikanya called for a change in leadership, expressing doubt in Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra's capability to lead the country. She warned of an impending economic storm and urged for a more competent administration to ensure the nation's economic survival and the well-being of its people.
