Tourists Flock to Doi Inthanon and Samet Nang Chee for New Year’s Sunrise Spectacle

CHIANG MAI: Kiew Mae Pan Viewpoint in Doi Inthanon National Park is drawing large crowds of tourists eager to witness the first light of the year. Both locals and international visitors are flocking to the scenic spot, resulting in a bustling road leading to the viewpoint.

According to Thai News Agency, the influx of visitors is primarily due to the unique opportunity to experience the first sunlight at Kiew Mae Pan. The morning temperature at the viewpoint was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius, while the peak of the mountain saw temperatures drop to 0 degrees Celsius, creating frost on the grass. Tourists gathered to capture the moment with photographs. Additionally, a Buddhist merit-making activity took place at kilometer 31, where visitors offered rice and dried food to monks for New Year's blessings.

The previous day saw an impressive turnout, with 13,723 tourists ascending the mountain to enjoy the chilly weather. Out of these, 12,742 were Thai nationals, and 981 were foreign visitors. To promote environmental conservation, park officials have encouraged campers to carry their trash back down for proper disposal.

Meanwhile, the Samet Nang Chee Viewpoint in Phang Nga Province is also attracting crowds. The site, known for its breathtaking 180-degree views of Phang Nga Bay, continues to be a favored destination for both Thai and foreign tourists. Samet Nang Chee's stunning landscape features a series of limestone islands and has become a must-visit attraction in the region, welcoming visitors throughout the year.
