Train Accident in Bangkok: Pedestrian Struck After Climbing Barrier

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) explained that a train struck a pedestrian this morning due to the pedestrian's carelessness in climbing over a barrier and cutting in front of the train. The incident caused a 22-minute delay.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved suburban train No. 367, which operates between Bangkok and Chachoengsao. The collision occurred between the Makkasan and Khlong Tan stations, shortly before reaching Asok stop, at approximately 10:40 AM.

The SRT clarified that the pedestrian's actions, which included parking a motorcycle on the roadside and climbing over a barrier to access the railway tracks, led to the accident. The individual attempted to urinate on the railway land when the train sounded its horn as a warning. However, due to the train's size and the long braking distance required, it was unable to stop in time, resulting in the collision.

The SRT emphasized that such actions not only endanger the individuals involved but also lead to disruptions in train services, as evidenced by the 22-minute delay experienced by the passengers. The agency reiterated the importance of adhering to safety regulations, reminding the public that areas within the railway right-of-way marked by fences or barriers are strictly off-limits. These measures are in place to ensure public safety and to prevent any interruptions in the country's public transportation system.
