Iran Unveils Conditions for Peace Proposal to the United States

Tehran: Iran has revealed details of its latest peace proposal to the United States, with key conditions including an end to all wars, including in Lebanon; reparations for damages from attacks; and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from areas near Iran.

According to Thai News Agency, Tehran's latest peace proposal to the United States, submitted through Pakistan, has been further revealed by Iran's state news agency IRNA and a statement by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Qasem Garibbabadi. Key conditions include: an end to all hostilities, including fighting in Lebanon, a conflict zone between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah; the withdrawal of US troops from all areas near Iran; war reparations for bombing damages resulting from the US-Israeli conflict; and the lifting of economic sanctions, the freezing of Iranian assets abroad, and the end of the naval blockade to reopen oil and cargo shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

These conditions are similar to Iran's previous offer, which US President Donald Trump rejected and criticized as completely unacceptable last week. However, yesterday, President Trump revealed that he had ordered the cancellation of a planned large-scale military attack on Iran originally scheduled for Tuesday, following a request from leaders of Gulf Arab states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who stated that negotiations between the two sides were progressing seriously and there was a high chance of reaching a mutual agreement.

Trump also indicated that there is now a very good chance of reaching an agreement on limiting Iran's nuclear program. Reports from sources suggest the US is showing more flexibility in allowing Iran to conduct some peaceful nuclear activities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and has agreed to release about a quarter of its frozen Iranian assets, but still refuses to exempt its oil from sanctions.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian declared via social media yesterday that negotiations with the US do not mean surrender, and that Iran will uphold its honor and protect its national interests to the fullest extent. He stated that Iran is participating in diplomatic negotiations with the US in good faith to reduce tensions, but will not relinquish the legal rights of its people and nation.

The ceasefire that began in early April remains largely in effect, despite tensions from some drone attacks. While previous airstrikes inflicted significant damage on Iran, the US and Israel have been unable to completely destroy Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpiles or its missile and drone capabilities.
