DNA Test Results Identified for Train-Bus Collision Victims

Bangkok: Forensic experts have completed DNA testing for four victims involved in the train-bus collision. The DNA results have been sent to Makkasan Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to Thai News Agency, forensic teams have successfully identified the names of four individuals from the tragic incident at the Makkasan railway crossing on Asoke-Din Daeng Road. These names have been forwarded to Makkasan Police Station for verification and discussions with relatives. While the identification of the bodies is complete, the process of confirming familial relationships remains ongoing. The Forensic Science Institute emphasizes that relatives must provide additional DNA samples to assist the police in confirming these relationships.

Police Major General Wirun Suphasinghsiripreecha, Commander of the Forensic Science Institute, stated that DNA samples from seven out of the eight families involved have been collected. However, confirmation of matches is still pending. The gender of the victims has not been fully determined, and relatives with concerns are encouraged to provide DNA samples to aid in the identification process.

Authorities are retaining bodies that remain unclaimed, urging anyone who believes they may have a missing relative among the victims to come forward for DNA comparison. The Forensic Medicine Institute has sent identification results to Makkasan Police Station investigators, who will require relatives to confirm their relationship before issuing documents for claiming the bodies.

Two of the remaining four unclaimed bodies have partial DNA matches from siblings, not direct relatives such as parents or children. This necessitates further testing due to the complexities involved. For the other two victims, DNA samples are still awaited from relatives, with one family being located in another province. The institute calls for anyone with knowledge or leads on missing relatives from the incident to contact them at 02-207-6108.

The Ruamkatanyu Foundation is set to transport the bodies back to their respective hometowns without charge, pending confirmation from the Forensic Institute regarding the schedule for body release.
