Mae hong son: Flash floods and landslides in Mae Hong Son have blocked roads, prompting officials to work tirelessly to clear the affected areas. Authorities have been on the ground since heavy rains struck the Mae Sariang and Mae Sam Laep districts, causing landslides, flash floods, and the toppling of trees and power poles, which obstructed traffic. While some roads have been partially reopened, ongoing efforts aim to evaluate the extent of the damage and assist residents affected by the natural disasters.
According to Thai News Agency, flash floods were reported in several regions yesterday evening, notably in the Mae Sam Laep stream. Here, floodwaters surged through Ban Huai Kong Kad in the Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict, Sop Moei District, sweeping away mud, soil, and fallen trees as rains began pouring from 6:00 PM onwards.
In addition to Mae Sariang and Sop Moei districts, heavy rainstorms have caused significant disruptions. Flash floods, landslides, and fallen trees and power poles have blocked roads in numerous areas, impacting transportation. Authorities plan to conduct a comprehensive damage assessment tomorrow morning to determine the full extent of the destruction.
In Ban Thung Laeng and Ban Mae Salab villages, located in the Mae Khong Subdistrict of Mae Sariang District, a severe storm with strong winds and heavy rain led to road blockages due to fallen trees and power poles. The 36th Ranger Regiment Task Force, alongside community leaders and the Provincial Electricity Authority of Mae Sariang, have been instrumental in providing public assistance and clearing roadways to restore normal traffic flow.
Furthermore, the Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict Administrative Organization has advised the public to temporarily avoid traveling on Highway 1194, the route between Mae Sariang District and Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict, until the situation improves. Efforts are underway to clear this crucial route as swiftly as possible.
