Bangkok, MEA joins hands with the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) in an MOU to develop renewable energy and energy conservation infrastructure.
Mr. Wilas Chelayasat, Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), together with Mr. Surachet Laopoolsuk, Governor of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), signed a memorandum of understanding on the project to develop the infrastructure of the electrical system, renewable energy technology and energy conservation between EXAT and MEA to promote and support the operation of the future electrical system infrastructure development, energy saving energy management system for the EXAT Expressway Administration Center building, toll collection buildings, expressway control centers, expressway lighting system and to support the development of renewable energy technology and management such as replacing traditional lamps with LED lamps, replacing the installation of electric vehicle charging stations and maintaining energy-saving air-conditionin
g systems, and installing solar cell power generation systems.
The MEA Governor revealed that as an organization with expertise in electricity distribution technology using renewable energy systems, MEA will operate in the areas of surveying, designing, installing systems, and maintaining power generation systems, which promotes the use of clean energy, in line with the government’s policy for government agencies to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 20 percent, helping to reduce electricity costs by using clean electricity generation technology, reducing global warming, reducing the burden of national electricity consumption, and creating stability for the overall power system.
The Governor of Expressway Authority of Thailand said that the cooperation with MEA will help reduce electricity and fuel consumption, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, conserve energy and maintain environmental balance, aiming for a low carbon society (Low Carbon Society) and is an important starting point to expand further
to strengthen cooperation in future opportunities.
In addition, the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is preparing to install EV charging stations under the expressway, totaling more than 10 locations, starting with Bang Kaew toll plaza. In addition, there will be solar roof installations at various rest stops on the expressway. Currently, the company is working with MEA to study data and suitability of the installation areas.
